Overcoming barriers to healthy food

Overcoming barriers to healthy food

Valencia’s rich food culture is deeply tied to its agricultural roots. Surrounded by the historic Huerta de València, one of Europe’s last living agricultural heritage systems, the city has access to fresh local produce.

Despite this, local food consumption remains low. To change that, Valencia is introducing initiatives like the Agrifood Strategy 2025 to reduce food waste, promote organic farming, and support vulnerable households through social food programs.

Local NGOs and community groups are also working to boost local markets.
