SPOON will take part in Terra Madre Salone del Gusto 2026 in Turin, one of the largest international gatherings on food, biodiversity and food policy. The project and its Turin Citizen Science Lab, SpoonTO, will be presented on 26 September as part of the panel From the Right to Adequate Food to Community Welfare, organised by Slow Food together with the City of Turin and the Regione Piemonte.

The panel examines how local food policies can secure the right to adequate food for vulnerable and marginalised communities, and how those policies can develop into territorial welfare systems built on public-private partnerships, third-sector involvement and civic networks. Discussion will span food security in African cities and food poverty around the Mediterranean, treating access to food as a lever for social inclusion and for strengthening communities.

Two SPOON partners will represent the project: the City of Turin and the Rete delle Case del Quartiere, who together host and run SpoonTO. Their contribution will draw on the work of the Lab, which brings residents, community organisations and local authorities together to generate evidence on food practices in the city and to feed it into local decision-making, a concrete illustration of how citizen science can inform food policy rather than sit alongside it.

The session offers SPOON an opportunity to connect its participatory approach with the municipal and civil-society actors already shaping community welfare in Turin and beyond, and to discuss with them how citizen-generated evidence can support the transition to healthier and more sustainable food systems.
