Dear reader,
We’re excited to share SPOON with you, an EU-funded project reimagining how we grow, share, and enjoy food. Our mission is to build a fairer, healthier, and more sustainable food system, one that reflects everyday realities and strengthens local communities.
Our food systems are under pressure — from climate change to unequal access to healthy food. SPOON seeks to address these challenges through citizen science, empowering communities to generate knowledge, exchange experiences, and collaborate with decision-makers to create meaningful, lasting change.
Across six European regions, Germany, Greece, Italy, Belgium, Spain, and Slovenia, we are establishing Citizen Science Labs and implementing Behaviour Change Interventions, supported by digital tools designed to make participation safe, secure, and impactful.
To start this journey together, we invite you to explore our project video – where the recipe behind SPOON comes to life – and our communication kit, offering a first taste of how SPOON is working toward a healthier, fairer food future.
The first opportunities to introduce SPOON to citizens have already begun. Across Europe, our local partners are spreading the word and engaging communities in conversations about how we can rethink food systems. In Turin and Braunschweig, Citizen Science Labs have opened their doors, creating spaces for collaboration, dialogue, and local experimentation. Other pilot regions will soon follow, bringing their perspectives and energy to this shared effort.
SPOON has also been presented at the IST 2025 Conference, where the team shared insights on participatory strategies for evaluating Citizen Science Labs and their role in transforming food systems.
In the coming months, we will share project updates and resources, invite you to webinars, workshops, and events, and introduce each of the pilot regions involved in SPOON, highlighting their work and the people driving change across Europe.
We hope this first issue whets your appetite for what’s to come!
